Last Thursday my team and I left for La Montaña Christian Camp outside of the city of Ramon here in Costa Rica. We were only there from Thursday morning until Sunday afternoon but WOW what a life changer. Thursday and Friday we cleaned up around camp and got ready for the campers to arrive Friday night. We took a tour of the camp and spent two hours swimming in a lake to “get to know the rules for the campers” and swept carpet in the chapel until our arms fell off. The activities we lead brought me back to all the summers I went to church camp and the way God met me there and changed my life. It was such a sweet opportunity to get a  look behind all the hard work that goes into making weekends like that so special and sweet.

The staff there made it an experience I will always hold close to my heart and cherish forever. We spent the majority of our time with them and came to be best friends in a matter of four days. They so openly shared their stories and hearts with us and asked us about ours with the most genuine desire to hear our answers. Every night we’d all gather in the cafeteria, have a late night snack, and pray for everything and then some before heading to bed and wow I already miss that community so much.

Though the atmosphere and people were so great, what made last weekend the most amazing were the times we got to worship with the campers and staff in both languages. The first night we got there one of the staff members took us upstairs in the gym into this office area and whipped out her guitar. I got excited. She had the voice of an actual angel and wow Spanish worship sounds so much prettier than English. She sang Spanish versions of familiar songs and my team and I sang along at the top of our lungs praising the most amazing God who created and hears all languages. The idea of eternity with all tongues singing praises to the artist of this masterpiece that is humanity gave me chills that didn’t end for the hour that we sang. It was a short and sweet weekend that gave me memories of a lifetime and I will cherish those little glimpses of Heaven so dearly. (I’m also determined to learn worship songs in Spanish now)
